The Age of the Mind (Working Title) Terence Koh

Terence Koh (* 1977 in Beijing) studied at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver and the University of Waterloo in Ontario. In the 2000s, under the pseudonym asianpunkboy, he created excessive, jet-black and clinically white installations and animated them with provocative performances; he founded his own talk show on YouTube and directed stage performances and videos for Lady Gaga. Since 2016 he has been combining shamanistic rituals with social issues and, by his own account, wishes to produce art ‘that people understand’. To this end, he creates imaginary spaces for himself and for visitors that blend art-history references with sub-cultural practices and personal recollections. He has shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art in León (Spain, 2008), the Yokohama Triennale (2008), the Kunsthalle in Zurich (2006), the Vienna Secession (2005), and the Whitney Biennale in New York (2004). His works have most recently been on show at the Office Baroque in Brussels (2018).
